Cairo’s great hotels follow the river. At Giza, Marriott Mena House stands at the foot of the Pyramids and, in its own words, is renowned for hosting royalty, dignitaries and distinguished travellers. On the east bank, the Corniche El Nil carries the city’s grand towers: the Four Seasons at Nile Plaza in Garden City, the Nile Ritz-Carlton between the river and Tahrir Square, The St. Regis and Fairmont Nile City further north. Across the water, the Cairo Marriott occupies a 19th-century palace on Gezira, and the Sofitel Nile El Gezirah holds the island’s southern tip.
By the Pyramids
Marriott Mena House, at 6 Pyramids Road in Giza, looks straight at the Great Pyramid; the Grand Egyptian Museum is a short drive away.
On the Corniche
Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza (1089 Corniche El Nil, Garden City), the Kempinski Nile Hotel (12 Ahmed Ragheb Street, Garden City), The Nile Ritz-Carlton (1113 Corniche El Nil), The St. Regis Cairo (1189 Nile Corniche) and Fairmont Nile City (Nile City Towers, 2005 B Corniche El Nil). On the west bank, Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at The First Residence is at 35 Giza Street.
Choose the river for a first visit, then add a night at Mena House for the Pyramids at dawn.
On Gezira
The Cairo Marriott Hotel, at 16 Saray El Gezira Street in Zamalek, and the Sofitel Cairo Nile El Gezirah, at the island’s southern tip.
Beyond Cairo
For the Nile journeys south: the Sofitel Winter Palace in Luxor and the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract in Aswan; on the Mediterranean, the Steigenberger Cecil in Alexandria.
Our advice: ask for a room on the river side; the Nile at dusk is the view Cairo is famous for.
