New Cairo, east of the Ring Road, is a modern district of gated compounds, universities, malls and restaurants, with Cairo Festival City at its heart; the East Nile monorail passes through on its way to the New Administrative Capital.

Go on a weekday to avoid the weekend crowds at the malls.
