The Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square opened in 1902 and remains one of the great collections of ancient Egypt, from the Old Kingdom statues to the treasures of Tanis. Tutankhamun’s treasures have moved to the Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza; the museum in Tahrir stays open for the rest of its collection, the Supreme Council of Antiquities confirms.
